Swan's Reach is a social development planning organization conducting S.O.A.R. planning (research, advocacy, organizing, and service resources) to align local development efforts with campaigns for establishing universal commonwealth, and a global society comprising the most cohesive social environments.
Former Director-General of UNESCO Federico Mayor stated "It is the cohesion and integration of our societies that must be enhanced...We need to build not only geographical but spiritual bridges between people and strengthen the intellectual, cultural and communication linkages between our societies."The unity of the human race, as envisaged by Bahá'u'lláh, implies the establishment of a world commonwealth in which all nations, races, creeds and classes are closely and permanently united, and in which the autonomy of its state members and the personal freedom and initiative of the individuals that compose them are definitely and completely safeguarded.
To these, and other, concepts fostering social unification, Swan's Reach adds nurturing spirit, cooperative living, conservation of life resources, and expansion of social equity as a context for commonwealth that is universal and advances a sustainable global society. In striving to establish universal commonwealth, our intent is that the most inclusive principles of social cohesion and sustainability become defined, adopted, and practiced throughout humanity, and produce enduring communities of individuals that are informed; enabled; encouraged; and engaged in the collective perseverance and prosperity of all living things.
We envision social progress in which the obstacles to commonwealth have been identified and eroded, through comprehensive planning efforts that achieve as broad a consensus as possible on principles of living we all can abide by. Civilization has defined, erected, and maintains conditions resolving social inequity, resource degradation, conflict, and neglect, while progressively relieving societal needs for "front line" struggles for survival and justice. Society has acquired greater understanding, acknowledgement, acceptance, and adoption of all life perspectives and pursuits, rather than popularizing compliance with exclusive conventions and norms. Humanity has become more nurturing of the varieties and uniqueness of individual nature, rather than adhear to the limitations of current social design.
In the Swan's Reach framework for universal commonwealth, and vision for global society, all of humanity is:
- personally encouraged to live equitably, sustainably, cooperatively, and nurturingly through advocacy that raises consciousness about human impacts to quality of life for all living things
- and actively engaged in establishing socially cohesive environments through local organizing around development issues advancing universal commonwealth and cooperative global society
INFORMING, ENABLING, ENGAGING, AND ENCOURAGING HUMANITY TO FORM SOCIALLY COHESIVE ENVIRONMENTS THROUGH ARTS AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT EXPANDING SOCIAL EQUITY, RESOURCE CONSERVATION, COOPERATIVE LIVING, AND NURTURING SPIRT WHEREVER POSSIBLEOur strategy is using arts and human development to expand global issue networks helping establish the conditions of our vision, and to invite humanity into working models of these conditions. We employ arts development as a medium for prospecting the most inclusive interpretation and understanding of living principles, and for designing a vision of social unification that is universal. Our human development focus is expanding humanity's capacity to establish universal commonwealth and cohesive society by helping resolve the obstacles to conditions of social equity, resource conservation, cooperative living, and nurturing spirit through consciousness-raising, alliance-building, resource networking efforts.
DEVELOPING RESEARCH, ADVOCACY, ORGANIZING, AND RESOURCE NETWORKS IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES COORDINATING WITH GLOBAL CAMPAIGNS FOR ESTABLISHING UNIVERSAL COMMONWEALTH AND COOPERATIVE SOCIETYOur methodology focuses on the primary human endeavor categories of the Pathways to Peace campaign, which are culture, economics & business, education, environment & habitat, governance & law, health & relations, science & technology, and spirituality & religion. In each of these categories, we help expand S.O.A.R. networks, to align local and regional social development efforts with the Earth Charter Principles of the Earth Charter International Secretariat, the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations, and with other campaigns for universal commonwealth and cohesive global society.
